Il Trittico
Puccini's Il Trittico is made up of three one-act operas performed in a single evening. In Il tabarro, a woman mourning her baby turns to an affair aboard her husband's barge on the Seine. In Suor Angelica, a young nun receives a visit from her aunt, who brings news of the child she was forced to give up. Gianni Schicchi closes the evening with a comedy about a Florentine family trying to rewrite a dead relative's will, only to find that the man they turn to has other ideas.
The cast includes Natalya Romaniw, Étienne Dupuis, SeokJong Baek, Ermonela Jaho and Bryn Terfel, with Speranza Scappucci conducting. Olivier Award winner Richard Jones directs this Royal Opera House production, first staged at Covent Garden in 2011, with each opera given its own design. Sung in Italian with English surtitles, it pairs tragedy and comedy with some of Puccini's best-known music, including 'O mio babbino caro'.
