Royal Opera House Seating Plan

Royal Opera House seating plan

London’s largest West End venue, the Royal Opera House seats 2,260 people over five levels the orchestra stalls, stalls circle, The Donald Gordon grand tier, balcony and amphitheatre. The auditorium is very high and sits in a strong horseshoe shape, meaning that there are various places in which one may get a better view of the stage. Generally speaking, the best views of the stage can be found in the centre of the orchestra stalls, stalls circle and the grand tier. Seats situated at the sides of the stalls circle and amphitheatre give a less clear view to the stage. The amphitheatre level is located at the top of the auditorium and is very high up, so not for the faint of heart. It is always worth checking the official Royal Opera House website before making a booking.

Stalls
The stalls are divided into three sections: a central seating block with two other set to the right and left of this. The best seats can be found in the central section. Due to the size and large visual scale of productions at the Royal Opera House, it is worth sitting further back to allow you to take in the whole picture.

Stalls Circle
The stalls circle wraps around the stalls, with seats in the centre giving the best view. The back two rows are restricted by level above and cut off the view of the top of the proscenium, but an LED screen in front of each seat provides surtitles.

Grand Tier and Balcony
The third and fourth level up from the stalls, the grand tier and balcony are similar in shape to the stalls circle and, though not as deep, follow the shape of the auditorium curving towards the stage. Centrally priced seats are more expensive, with those towards the stage giving a side-on view to the stage.

Amphitheatre
The deepest section of the auditorium, the amphitheatre stretches back 20 rows to the very back of the auditorium. Views at this level are, on the whole, unrestricted but can feel far back from the action on stage. These seats look straight onto the stage rather than having a side view. The amphitheatre slips can provide seats at excellent value for money, but can be uncomfortable as the seats are often wooden benches rather than cushioned seats. Although the view of the stage is completely side-on, you are high above the stage, giving an unparalleled view of the orchestra.
